Robert Snodgrass: Favours Ashley Cole in left-back position

The Norwich midfielder, who comes up against Shaw on Saturday as his relegation-threatened side travel to Southampton, has added fuel to the fire, by insisting Shaw should be Hodgson's third choice left-back.

"It's a tough question, but I would not take him on the plane to Brazil if I was picking the England squad," Snodgrass told the Daily Mirror.

"Leighton Baines will obviously go on current form and my second choice would be Ashley Cole, because of his experience.

"Shaw is a bit too young and I just think that this World Cup has come a little too soon for him. He still has a lot to learn."

But despite this view, Snodgrass was full of praise for the Saints youngster, and is relishing facing him at St Mary's.

"He is probably one of the best left-backs I've ever played against and I'm looking forward to the challenge," Snodgrass added.
