Coleman: Bale is loving life

Wales manager Chris Coleman says Gareth Bale is really enjoying life at his new club Real Madrid.

And Coleman thinks Bale's contented state of mind will improve his chances of being a major success in Spain.

Bale's career at Real Madrid so far has been somewhat stop-start due to niggling injuries but he has impressed of late, scoring three goals in his last four appearances.

And he played the full 90 minutes for Wales on Saturday night, as they drew 1-1 with Finland at Cardiff City Stadium.

Coleman said: "I've had a chat with him and asked him how life is in Madrid and he's enjoying it, and enjoying his football. The players have been great with him.

"If you are comfortable in your environment and are content, then you take that onto the pitch with you.

"Knowing the type of boy Gareth is, once he's happy, then he will enjoy his football. He will get used to what's happening in and around him.

"He just wants to play football and be on the pitch."

Bale remains grounded

Bale has been the subject of huge scrutiny since he left Spurs for Real but Coleman praised the 24-year-old for taking the increased attention in his stride.

"I've seen him this week and he is exactly the same boy," said the manager. "He is no different, there is no reason for him to change.

"He is a cracking lad to work with and he is no different to how he was six months ago."

Wales were denied by a late equaliser against the Finns but Coleman thinks there are reasons for optimism ahead of the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

"I think I've seen enough in the last couple of camps," he said.

"I stand by the fact that, in the whole World Cup campaign, there were only two games we were not good enough in, both against Serbia. Otherwise, the players have had a go and I have seen a lot of positives.

"I am worried about the next three or four months in terms of a lack of action for myself. I don't like that but it is part of the job.

"But, looking at this squad of players and the possibilities, I am quite optimistic.

"We will play again in March and we have some other options, but nothing concrete, and we will maybe have two more games in the summer."

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.

f you want to take six points off Arsenal, then that's a great strike force. Can't imagine either of them showing much for the rest of the season though...
