Barcelona striker Messi left the pitch in a Primera Division match against Atletico Madrid with pain in his left leg and, while it is not certain he will face Malaga this weekend, Sabella is eager to assess him in Buenos Aires in two weeks' time.

Argentina are already missing Javier Mascherano, Federico Fernandez, Diego Garay and Gonzalo Higuain through suspension.

Argentina squad to play Paraguay: Romero (Monaco), Andujar (Catania); Zabaleta (Man City), Campagnaro (Inter Milan), Coloccini (Newcastle), Rojo (Sporting), Basanta (Monterrey), Ansaldi (Zenit St Petersburg); Banega (Valencia), Biglia (Lazio), Fernandez (Celta Vigo), Di Maria (Real Madrid, Alvarez (Inter Milan), Lamela (Roma); Messi (Barcelona), Aguero (Man City), Lavezzi (Paris St Germain), Palacio (Inter Milan).
