Patrice Evra: Enjoying being part of the France class of 2014

France’s 2010 World Cup campaign was marred by in-fighting and disputes being playing and coaching staff.

They tumbled out at the group stage in disgrace and have been rebuilding ever since.

Deschamps would appear to have re-established solid foundations, with a 2014 quest for global glory progressing nicely.

Evra, one of those to be punished in the wake of the South African farce, says harmony has been restored to the ranks and that everyone is now pulling in the same direction.

Ahead of France’s second Group E outing against Switzerland on Friday, the experienced full-back said: “You need everyone in the World Cup, you cannot give up because you’re not starting a game.

“We do not have a problem with egos in this team.

“Nothing’s ever certain with Deschamps. That’s why I like to work with him. He never gives you presents.

“He’ll look you in the eyes and say, ‘Pat, if you mess up I won’t spare you’. I know that if I step out of line I’m out of this team.

“I have faith in this squad, and that’s a great strength. The star isn’t one player, it’s the team.”

While enjoying working under Deschamps at international level, Evra says he is also looking forward to welcoming Dutch coach Louis van Gaal to Manchester United next season – having penned a new one-year deal at Old Trafford.

He added: “Van Gaal is a great coach.

“Robin van Persie tells me he’s very disciplined, and I like discipline, like we had with Sir Alex Ferguson.”
