James Rodrgiuez: Monaco playmaker is setting the World Cup alight

The 22-year-old is currently setting the World Cup alight, with a brilliant brace against Uruguay on Saturday securing a quarter-final berth.

Colombia have turned to the youngster in their hour of need, with talismanic frontman Radamel Falcao forced to miss the finals through injury, and he has delivered in style.

Rodriguez is no hidden gem, though, as he has already graced the books of Porto and secured a big-money move to Monaco in the summer of 2013.

It is, however, expected that interest in his services will continue to mount steadily with each eye-catching performance.

A move to Spain has already been mooted, and Rodriguez has revealed that he would welcome a switch once his time in France is up.

He told Cadena Cope: “I would love to play in Spain.

“It would be a dream to play there as we are talking about the best league in the world.”

Any chase for his services would be led by Barcelona and Real Madrid, and Rodriguez says he would favour the current holders of the UEFA Champions League crown if given the choice.

He added: “I prefer Real Madrid to Barcelona."

f he can find the right player? Surely the manager of one of Europe's top clubs has a well-researched short-list and has a good idea of who he wants to bring on-board? If I can find the right player sounds like someone going out on Saturday night on the pull, and the nearer you get to midnight the lower your standards drop.
