Bristol City chairman Colin Sexstone has criticised Doncaster counterpart John Ryan for his comments regarding Saturday's game between the two sides.
Early in the game which City eventually won 2-1, Rovers winger James Coppinger was left with a broken cheekbone following a challenge by Yannick Bolasie.
Referee Fred Graham did not punish Bolasie but Ryan has joined manager Dean Saunders in accusing the Robins winger of a "head butt" and subsequently suggested the prospect of taking legal action.
"I'm very disappointed to be honest, I've known John for some time," Sexstone told BBC Radio Bristol.
"My instant take was that it was a challenge, at worst it was a little late. No-one can say there was any intent and unfortunately injuries do happen in football.
"We feel sorry for James Coppinger and hope he recovers as quickly as possible but to suggest anything else is very wide of the mark. Unfortunately in football, if you go to head a ball you lead with your head. To suggest it was a head butt is ludicrous."
