Rovers' extravagant recruitment policy has raised a few eyebrows over the last few months, with their new signings ranging from established Premier League stars such as El-Hadji Diouf and Pascal Chimbonda to a host of unknown French players.
But it is the exit door at the Keepmoat Stadium which has been busier in January with a number of players such as Richard Naylor, Mark Wilson, Ryan Mason, Jon Parkin and Dean Shiels all leaving the club and Saunders knows the departures will not stop there.
"There have been a lot of players to leave the club and take into account Billy (Sharp's) wages then we have cut the wage bill down a lot and I knew I had to do that when I came in," he said.
"With the crowds we are getting we can't compete with the likes of Leicester and Southampton so I have to use all my contacts and all of Willie's to get players in for next to nothing.
"We will have to lose some more players."
