Steve Cotterill: Confirms Chelsea want Bamford

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cotterill has confirmed Chelsea have made a £1.5million bid for teenage striker Patrick Bamford.

The 18-year-old has made just two substitute appearances during his Forest career, but is wanted by Premier League giants Chelsea.

He has also attracted interest from other clubs and Cotterill is to discuss the matter with the club's board as he does not expect Bamford to sign a new deal at the City Ground

"There has been a bid for him from Chelsea, it is for £1.5m," said Cotterill in the Nottingham Evening Post. "The problem we have is that Patrick has been offered a couple of contracts now.

"And I am not sure Patrick will sign a new contract at Nottingham Forest.

"We are going to have a meeting to decide where that goes. What materialises, we will find out shortly."

Ahead of Tuesday's transfer deadline, Cotterill is also hoping to bring in a new defender following the departure of Wes Morgan to rivals Leicester City.

He added: "Signings do not always drop in the order that you would like them to.

"Ideally, as Wes leaves, you would like a central defender to fall in to place. That has been very difficult, to get another central defender in or even another defender of any type.

"There is a shortage of them, at this moment in time. Or at least a shortage of players who are available.

"Trying to get away with the defenders that we have had has been nonsensical. We can't get away with that. We have to try very hard to get somebody, before the window closes."

And as Martin Tyler said on Saturday night....he is immortal at Chelsea. What a way to go out eh....Good luck big man wherever you land next.

ne of the many delights of the final few seconds of the season was seeing little Mike Owen with his trackie off and full replica kit on, getting ready to celebrate having contributed NOTHING all season. Would have been on a par with Terry's carry-on in Munich.
