Carrick doubt for England

Michael Carrick admits he is unlikely to feature for England in the forthcoming friendlies with Chile and Germany.

The Manchester United midfielder played the full 90-minutes over their 1-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday, but it was his first game back after missing the previous three with an Achilles problem.

However, he was limping badly as he left the stadium on Sunday and it seems highly unlikely he will feature in the first two matches of England's build-up to next summer's World Cup finals in Brazil.

"I have been carrying the injury for a few weeks now," he said.

"I was a bit patched up to play today.

"I got through it but it doesn't look too good."

Six pointer

Carrick, though, was in no doubt how much the win over Arsenal meant to United - admitting it was like a 'six pointer'.

"It was a big game, the amount of points we were behind, it was the old school six-pointer and we were well aware of that before the game," he told Sky Sports.

"We showed how much we wanted it and we got the lead and then tried to sit back and counter attack, we knew they were going to have a lot of the ball and we knew we would have to be patient and defend well.

"It is not the first time we have been written off, and we pride ourselves on our form over the season and we set high standards and today was something close to it.

"We have stayed patient and we haven't been getting down on ourselves, we know how much of the season is left. It is a good day, but it is not going to make the season."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
