German has affection for club but happy in charge of USA

Former Tottenham striker Jurgen Klinsmann has played down suggestions he could return to the club as manager by insisting he is committed to guiding USA to the next World Cup.

Harry Redknapp is the favourite to become Fabio Capello's successor as permanent England boss in the summer, meaning there could be a vacancy at White Hart Lane.

A number of high-profile names have already been linked with the role and Klinsmann has been mentioned as a possible candidate.

The German enjoyed two successful spells with Tottenham as a player and says he will always have a lot of affection for the London club.

However, he is currently in charge of USA and has no plans to leave the post until after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Proud

He said: "I have a wonderful relationship with Tottenham. I know the people there and I also know the environment. It's just a wonderful club.

"But I am extremely proud and privileged to be US national team coach."

He added: "Hopefully we will have, after qualification, a great World Cup in Brazil.

"Then, in soccer, just like in any other environment, you never know what will happen."
