Jurgen Klinsmann's side opened the scoring in the 35th minute when Fabian Johnson set up Jozy Altidore.

Eddie Johnson doubled the lead in the 53rd minute after Geoff Cameron had set him up.

The United States moved two points clear of Costa Rica in the standings as Panama dropped to fifth spot.

Costa Rica picked up a point from a goalless draw with Mexico who continued their disappointing campaign.

Supporters called for coach Jose Manuel de la Torre to quit after his side made it five draws from six games and 270 minutes without a goal at the Estadio Azteca.

After Mexico's last match before their Confederations Cup appearance in Brazil, De la Torre said: "This is all my fault."

"If the players' form here is not the same as in their club teams, it is my fault, not theirs. But I am not thinking of quitting because every day I wake up wilful to win everything.

"I can make changes in the next squad nomination. I have two months left to think about it."

Honduras climbed up to fourth in the standings thanks to a 2-0 victory over winless Jamaica at home in Tegucigalpa.

Oscar Boniek Garcia put the Catrachos ahead in the 10th minute after Roger Rojas headed the ball down.

Seventeen minutes later Garcia left the field with an injury but Rojas secured the win with a goal after 88 minutes.

Reading's Jamaican defender Adrian Mariappa did not finish the game after being sent off with 14 minutes to go.

heyremind me of Utd's treble winning side. Swashbuckling and risk prone. We ha Jaap Stam to paper over the cracks at the back though. Not sure they have their Jaap yet.

he solution is to not feel sorry for any of Jabba, Gold or Sullivan. They're all deeply unpleasant and all deserve each other. If only West Ham would sign Barton and Suarez then no one would ever need to despise any other club.
