Making his 50th league appearance in a 3-0 win over his former club Sunderland on Wednesday, Henderson excelled despite illness and hopes his recent run of games can be a platform for regular first-team football.

Speaking to the club's official website, the 22-year-old said: "It's obviously nice to play as many games as you can. I've got to keep doing that and hopefully I can play more games.

"I've just been working hard, keep plugging away. Over Christmas there are a lot of games so the whole squad is needed.

"You've got to take the opportunity when it comes. I've enjoyed playing so hopefully I can keep working hard, improving and getting my chance.

"We're very pleased with the performance and the result - I think we defended very well, created lots of chances and overall we deserved to win the game.

"Every time we have started well, we've managed to go on and score a few goals. We'll look to do that all the time. The most important thing is to win the game and we managed to do that."

Earlier this week, coach Mike Marsh revealed Henderson had to be quarantined before the Sunderland clash due to the bug he was suffering from - but the midfielder said he is now back to full fitness.

"I feel a lot better now. It was just that night, I don't know what it was. Hopefully I don't get it again," he said.

Henderson praised captain Steven Gerrard, admitting his masterful performances make life easy for his team-mates.

He said: "Stevie has done it for many years now - everybody knows how good he is.

"The last goal was an unbelievable pass by him. He's a pleasure to play with and makes it easier for a lot of us."

Henderson also delivered his verdict on Daniel Sturridge, the latest player to join the Reds' project, a man who he knows better than most.

"I know Dan quite well, I've played with him in the U21s. He's a great lad and very talented - I think he'll be brilliant here and it's a great boost for the club," he added.
