Reports in France say Newcastle's chief scout travelled to watch the 20-year-old midfielder in action for Guingamp last week.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew has already shown his inclination for talent from across the channel, bringing five signings to Tyneside in January to take the French contingent to 10.

But Belgian-born Imbula, who is contracted at Guingamp until 2015, says there is no foundation to the transfer talk.

The youngster, who has previously been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea, said: "I am trying to finish the season strongly.

"I have a contract until 2015 so let's see what will happen. Guingamp is my club and they will have their say.

"Newcastle are in the Premier League, you are talking about a big club, but nothing is done. It is only paper talk."
