Pulis: Stoke win was deserved

Tony Pulis claimed Stoke deserved their 1-0 victory over Norwich and that it represented a "big push" towards survival.

Charlie Adam's goal early in the second half was enough to give the Potters all three points and all but guarantee top-flight football at the Britannia Stadium next season.

While Pulis stopped short of admitting Stoke were safe, he acknowledged it would be a significant achievement for the club.

"Villa play Sunderland on Monday night so we'll see how that game goes," he told Sky Sports.

"But 40 points and a good goal difference is a big push towards staying in the Premier League for a sixth consecutive year which is truly remarkable for the football club.

"I thought we deserved to win the game. The disappointing thing is that some of the opportunities and chances we created, we never took."

Scotland midfielder Adam was the star of the show as he produced a busy performance with plenty of quality, providing the spark that Stoke have so often lacked this season.

Pulis was full of praise for the ex-Liverpool man, particularly after he has endured such a difficult time following the death of his father in December.

"Charlie has had a very up and down season, not only on the pitch but off the pitch," added Pulis.

"I think people know about what happened to Charlie so it's nice to see him get a goal as he's worked very hard in the last few weeks and is always liable to pop up with a goal."

Pulis himself has been the focus of much attention of late with some speculating that his time in the Potteries working with chairman Peter Coates could be coming to an end.

Although the Stoke boss did little to dampen that speculation, he paid tribute to the Coates family and revealed staying in the Premier League would be a reward for their faith in him.

"I've had seven or eight years with Peter and the family," he said. "They've been wonderful people and very supportive.

"It's been a pleasure working for them and I'm just so pleased we've got the win for them, as much as anything else."

haos reached its ultimate reckoning last weekend with Tony Hibbert looking assured at left back and Osman looking like a cultured ball playing midfielder before busting a gut to get to the back post for a Samuel Eto'o ball. Different chaos but chaos. If Kone scores the winner tonight I fear the world will end.
