The 37-year-old former Republic of Ireland international is well into his one-month loan at the Riverside after being displaced as number one by Brad Guzan at Aston Villa.

Now Given, who kept a clean sheet on his Boro debut at home to Bolton in the Championship, says he is out to prove he still has the ability to do it at the highest level.

"People quickly forget about you when you're not playing," Given told The Sun.

"So it's an important time for me to try to show people I have still got the ability.

"It's a perfect platform to try and get a move in January. I will keep every option open, whatever league or country that is in. I'm not bothered.

"I have found it difficult, I really have. When you are training for months on end and not playing, of course it is difficult.

"Paul Lambert picked Brad and he has played very well. I've no real complaints about that.

"The manager has been very good to me. I know people say 'he dropped you', which he did, but he's been very supportive too.

"I understand there are budgets involved, but you have to take it on the chin.

"It's a phenomenal set-up here (at Middlesbrough). I'm just happy to be back playing."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
