The 19-year-old Chelsea defender made five appearances for Graham Westley's men but was unable to nail down a regular starting place with the out-of-sorts League One outfit during a six-week spell.

That did not stop Rovers snapping him up for a month on his return to Stamford Bridge and the England Under-19 international played the full 90 minutes on his debut, last Friday's 1-1 draw at Wolves.

And Kane feels the physical nature of League One along with Westley's infamous long training hours will stand him in good stead for life in the Championship.

"It was a good experience (at Preston) of different philosophies of playing football," said Kane. "Physically I feel like I've got stronger, playing with men every day and I've learnt a lot from them.

"It was different from being at Chelsea, obviously I was used to finishing training and doing a bit extra in the gym. At Preston the manager said I do the hours so I can get that little bit extra (fitness) and it might help after Christmas.

"I wasn't disappointed. I knew I was there to get some games and experience and I'm happy that I played five games and got five starts. I would have liked to play more but I thank Graham Westley for giving me the opportunity.

"League One is totally different to the Championship, it's more physical. In the Championship you get more time on the ball and hopefully I can show what I can do."
