Bentley has made a pair of substitute appearances in last weekend's FA Cup triumph at Arsenal and the midweek npower Championship reverse at Hull City since re-signing for Rovers on loan from Tottenham.

Given the controversial nature of his big-money move to White Hart Lane in October 2008, the 28-year-old might have expected a hostile reception returning as an opponent but that scenario never presented itself.

"It's weird how football works, I haven't been back," he said. "We've got Leeds United on Saturday, my first game back and I'm looking forward to it. All my family are not far from here so they'll be all involved.

"Hopefully (the fans) understand why I left and I get a nice reception on Saturday but it's just about me performing for them, doing what I do and running around for them."

Bentley has looked on in disappointment at the misfortunes that have befallen Blackburn since his departure, but the former Arsenal youngster feels brighter times are ahead under boss Michael Appleton for a club he still holds in the highest regard.

He said: "With the new manager, this club's foundations and it's morals and it's honest...it's a good place with good people and you need to keep that.

"It's probably got lost over the last couple of years. There's been a few problems and it's lost its heart and soul a little bit. I think with the management and the people around the club, I feel that I'm coming back with it on an upward curl.

Out of contract at White Hart Lane in the summer, Bentley is looking no further than a potentially glorious Wembley double-header with Rovers in the remaining months of this season.

"We've got Millwall in the FA Cup which is a good draw," he said. "It's going to be a hard game but hopefully we can beat them and get to Wembley. And in the play-offs as well, with the squad we've got - the players and the team and the management I think we can get in the play-offs."
