The England international made his return to action during a 3-1 win at Sunderland on Saturday, following a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Lampard aggravated a calf complaint during a UEFA Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk on 23rd October and was careful not to rush back into action.

He claims to be feeling fit and raring to go, as Chelsea prepare to embark on their Club World Cup adventure, but is aware of the need to steer clear of further injury troubles ahead of a testing run of fixtures.

On his return at the Stadium of Light, Lampard told Chelsea TV: "I felt fine, I had to be careful this time because of the recurrence I had last time, even though I've been desperate to get back.

"I've been working hard in the gym to make sure it has a strong base, so touch wood I'm all good with it.

"I just want to stay fit and be able to contribute and help the team with all the games we have coming up.

"For all the work you do in training to prepare yourself, it's nice to come on and get into attacking positions. One of the strengths of my game is getting further forward, so I hope to have that back pretty quickly."

Reaction

In Lampard's absence, Chelsea have slipped 10 points off the pace in the Premier League title race and out of the Champions League - becoming the first holders to be eliminated at the group stage.

The 34-year-old is, however, confident that the Blues can enjoy a productive 2012/13 campaign.

He added: "It's certainly not over, but pre-Christmas we've given ourselves a really tough task, which is what we did last year. We fell away and never recovered.

"We need an instant reaction following the Sunderland game, we need to go on and on, and it's important that when we get back from Japan, and then we've faced Leeds (in the Capital One Cup), we need to re-focus and get as many points as we can."
