Midfielder Frank Lampard, who has been linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge in January, scored a brace as Chelsea came from behind to claim the spoils.

Benitez refused to comment on the 34-year-old's future but praised Lampard for his attitude as well as his performance against Everton.

"I am really pleased with the team, credit to Frank for the goals," Benitez said.

"Lampard is a great player, a good professional, who is doing well for us and I will try to bring the best out of him until the end of the season.

"He is one of the players who if he gets in the box he can be dangerous.

"He is under contract. He has shown his full commitment. He is a great player and my job is to keep him fit, happy and scoring goals.

"If he can score goals every game I'll be pleased."

Meanwhile, the Spaniard refused to be drawn on reports linking Newcastle striker Demba Ba with a switch to Chelsea.

Benitez added: "We don't talk about this business, we had a very important game today."

Petr Cech was replaced at half-time by Ross Turnbull at Goodison, and the Czech goalkeeper will have a scan on a groin injury on Monday.

"When I jumped I felt pain in my right groin," he said. "We will see how serious it is. We will know more after the medical check."

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.

afa has to be favourite for the Everton job now, surely :) He'll realise his ambition to live and work on Merseyside again, get the best out of whoever plays for them, maybe win some cups and be thoroughly loathed by the toffee fans. What's not to like? Go ead, Ken, gimajob!
