Torres has been tipped for a move away from Stamford Bridge in the summer as speculation builds that the club could swoop for Atletico Madrid frontman Radamel Falcao.

The Spaniard has struggled to recapture the form that served him so well at Liverpool prior to his £50million move to Chelsea in January 2011.

Serie A club Fiorentina are thought to be keen on the 29-year-old, who has three years remaining on his contract in West London, but sports director Daniele Prade has hinted he is out of the Italian club's price range.

He said: "If these big names are linked to Fiorentina, it means that we are considered a great team. But some players right now are outside of the parameters of Italian football, especially in regard to wages."

Fiorentina's technical director, Eduardo Macia, admits Torres is an attractive prospect but has suggested the club's plans lie elsewhere.

Macia also reflected on Dimitar Berbatov's collapsed move to Fiorentina last summer after the former Manchester United striker chose to join Fulham instead of the Viola, leaving the Italian side enraged.

He told Corriere dello Sport of Torres: "He is a symbol. He is a player on a par with excellence, the one who plays only to win.

"He is a killer in the area and at Liverpool, with (Steven) Gerrard, they built a goal machine."

But Macia added: "Here there is a different project. Now there are many players who ask to come to Florence.

"Berbatov too last summer asked to come to Fiorentina through the United leadership. But then, during the air travel, everything happened."

s that Subbuteo's Shaun Wright-Phillips? Crikey, I thought he'd retired. Although I guess 'Only' QPR is like a retirement home.

xcellent! Not sure if he is any good as a manager (never thought about it) but the 'headbutt in the technical area' and what he said to Pelligrini were just brilliant, it was as if he was trying to recreate the end of the Alan Partridge Xmas special when Alan punched a man in a wheelchair and verbally abused Tony Heirs.
