Cahill produced a solid performance in central defence beside John Terry in his first outing since 17 March.

The 27-year-old has been out of action following surgery to rectify a knee problem, and he is relishing the challenges Chelsea face in the remainder of the campaign.

As well as battling for a place in the top four of the Premier League, the Blues are hoping to secure a place in the Europa League final.

"It's great to be back now," Cahill said. "It's been three weeks since the surgery, so it's been a great turnaround.

"I felt good. I've done a lot of hard work in the past couple of weeks and that's paid off. It feels strong, it feels good.

"We have to push for third. It's put us in a good position at this moment in time."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
