The Blues are set to travel to the Emirates Stadium for the fourth round encounter on Tuesday October 29, just two days after a vital Premier League game at home to Manchester City.

Their opponents Arsenal, meanwhile take on Crystal Palace on the Saturday, giving them an extra 24 hours to prepare for the midweek game.

Mourinho has hit out at what he sees as an unfair advantage given to the Gunners because of the scheduling of the fixture and feels he may have little choice but to field a weakened team in order to allow his key squad members time to recover.

The Portuguese is quoted as saying in The Sun: "We have the Under-21s team. If people think it's not an important game, why should I think it's an important game?

"If it's important you give time for the players to rest, equal to both teams.

"To make Chelsea play on Sunday and then Tuesday, it's because they're not interested in Chelsea going there at maximum strength."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
