Eden Hazard: Failed to turn up for Chelsea training

Hazard failed to report for a training session and was left out of the Blues squad that faced Schalke in the Champions League as a result.

Mourinho admitted dropping the Belgian was a risky strategy but stands by the decision and will consider Hazard for selection for Saturday's Premier League game at home to West Brom.

"He reacted well," said Mourinho. "He apologised to me and he apologised to the club.

"Of course the apology was not accepted but it's over and it's something that doesn't exist anymore.

"He is selected and he is ready to play. He has an appetite to play; it was a risk not to select him (for the Newcastle game) speaking in terms of football.

"It was an important match but sometimes as a manager you have to make some risky decisions."

Hazard was the guest of honour at former club Lille on Sunday night as they entertained Monaco in Ligue 1 but did not report back to Chelsea's Cobham training ground in time for Monday's session.

Mourinho is confident the situation has now been addressed and that it will act as a reminder of the rules of conduct to the rest of the squad.

"He went to a foreign country when he shouldn't have and he lost his passport," he said. "He knows he made a mistake and it's not a big story.

"The consequences were that he didn't play and that's the worst thing that can happen to a player.

"For me, the group is more important than any player and every player knows what my decision would be in that situation."
