Liverpool FC is a total crap this year. No wonder Carra wants to retire.

As great performance as it was, it was just that, a battle won. You are going to be judged on whether you win the war and so far you are losing it badly. Two reasons for that, lack of strategies and lack of good soldiers.

I raised the issue of BR fawning over failure the other week, and he's done it again.

It wasn't technically a 'fight back'.

Who wouldnt forgive Carragher that back pass, the guy has given everything all his career. This was by far the most entertaining game in Europe including the CL. Liverpool know how to play them and belong back there. Let the also-rans depart.

I can't believe some of the responses looking for any reason to pin last night's exit as a Brendan Rodgers disaster. Liverpool won 3-1! They dominated every aspect of the game last night. If this was a league match, would we really be hearing about how useless Rodgers is for making substitutions and not winning by 5, 6, 7? I honestly believe we could've won 10-1 last night and people would be complaining about last night's performance if we'd gone out on the away goal. The criticism should surely be leveled at the first leg, not on our God-given right to score 4, 5 or 6 goals in a match?

My dad still shuffles the steering wheel through his hands when he's turning a corner. I marvel that he's kept up this technically correct practise after all his years of driving. I had a girlfriend who did the same thing. She even stuck to those rules when a car pulled out in front of her and she had to swerve around it. She didn't hit the car, but we did end up on the grass verge. There's a point where the technically correct rule has to be ignored and you have to follow your gut. Carragher's failed back pass was such an occasion. I don't blame him for what happened because its exactly what he's been instructed to do - don't hoof the ball and lose possession. Teams will soon learn to press us at the back because they know we'll do anything to avoid launching the ball forward. I also think this is why Reina suddenly looks nervous on the ball now. Maybe they'll all learn to perfect this retention play, but in the meantime we should expect the odd calamity back pass and some flakey defending.

Inflexible manager with lightweight tactics. The team gets predictable and one dimensional. The number of goals conceded through mistakes at the back are down to the manager having only one way to play and not really having the defenders to carry out his instructions. During the last two or three minutes, the team were being closed down and couldn't even get out of their half. As the whistle blew, the team were passing it around in their own half. It doesn't have to be the main strategy, but, as a back up plan, there is nothing wrong with playing it long, never an option now, in order to get the ball into the opposition box quickly. The goal conceded and the lack of chances created in the last 20 minutes were down to the manager's inflexible attitude.

I think Carra would have hit that (with his right) into Row Z of the Centenary Stand last season, but Rogers wants the ball kept, if nothing is on don't hit it out of play pass it back if possible. The idea was right but Carra's left foot is usually for standing on.......

@kolevlfc, answer to your ques is simple, he's playing well. @gameoftwohalves, its only BR's first 2 legged tie in Europe come on! It was a tough draw We should have won away from home we didn't it happens overall Zenit are a good side there are only around 3 teams in England that i would fancy to beat Zenit, Chelsea Spurs United...and the first 2 is no guarantee. Dont agree about Benitez for the simple reason i think he lost that edge he use to have in Europe, to turn Liverpool into the number 1 seeded team in Europe was incredible but what went on in his last 2 seasons in Europe at Liverpool was painfull. I just remember Voronin starting constantly and being ineffective constantly. Then we moved onto Ngog and the same thing happened. Nothing to do with inexperience we were set up the way we always are and we deserved to win the 2 legs overall, its not his fault Carra made that mistake or Downing was to afraid to block the cross for the second goal in Zenit.
