Gerrard, who celebrated his testimonial with a 2-0 win over Olympiakos on Saturday, admits finishing in the top four and reaching the UEFA Champions League is their top target this season.

The Reds captain has been impressed by the club's four new signings to date feeling Simon Mignolet, Kolo Toure, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto will add something different to Brendan Rodgers' squad at Anfield.

"It's got to be the aim (to finish in the top four)," said Gerrard

"I've experienced it many times here at at Anfield (European football) that's where we believe we belong.

"He's (Aspas) got little bits of magic and he'll certainly strengthen the squad, he's still very young but you can see the talent there.

"I thought (Kolo) Toure looked very assured at the back, (Simon) Mignolet kept a clean sheet.

"And Luis Alberto is one for the future. I'm sure every minute he gets here at Anfield it'll be a great experience for him.

"All our new signings are settling well and hopefully there's one or two more in these coming weeks."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
