Glen Johnson: Liverpool defender close to a full recovery after an ankle injury

Rodgers' side host Crystal Palace on Saturday before the final round of World Cup qualifiers, with a trip to Newcastle to follow when the Premier League resumes on 19 October.

And Rodgers is optimistic he will be able to call upon Glen Johnson, Aly Cissokho and Joe Allen for the trip to St James' Park.

Johnson has not played since picking up an ankle injury in the 1-0 win over Manchester United on 1 September, while Cissokho and Allen have been out of action with ankle and hamstring injuries suffered in the Capital One Cup clash with Notts County in August.

"Glen's out on the field and hopefully after the international break he'll be ready to come back into the squad," said Rodgers.

"We're okay. Aly Cissokho has trained over the course of the last week or so, so I think after the international break he'll be fine and fit. Joe Allen likewise - he should be ready for the Newcastle game.

"Coutinho will not be long after. Obviously Sebastian Coates will be that bit longer and has a bit more to do yet, but apart from that we're getting back to our numbers now."

Barcelona transfer ban upheld

h Daniel. I could spend hours on this subject putting the world to rights. You can even take a step back and ask why football fans (and society in general) have this need to know that something will happen before it actually does. There are times this important, when it comes to things like war, food production and natural disasters. A man you've never met changing his job? Not so much.

reat article. Hits the nail on the head. Encapsulates why I don't read tabloid newspapers anymore. The only thing worse is the 'told you so first' headline when they get lucky.
