City endured a frustrating 2012/13 season, during which they surrendered the Premier League title to rivals Manchester United, struggled in the Champions League and were beaten by Wigan in the final of the FA Cup.

This cost Roberto Mancini his job as manager, meaning a new man will be in charge when the team reconvene for pre-season training.

But Rodwell, who scored his first goals for the club in their 3-2 defeat by Norwich on the final day of the season on Sunday, believes a summer break and new manager will reinvigorate the squad.

"The lads are disappointed with the result be we are all focused now for next season," said Rodwell.

"Next season will be a big season for us and there will be a few changes.

"We'll see what happens. We'll be refreshed, have a good holiday and come back flying."

England international Rodwell has made only a limited impression since his £12m move from Everton last summer due to the latest in a long series of hamstring injuries that have blighted his career.

But while disappointed to lose to Norwich, Rodwell was pleased to finally make a positive impact for the club.

Rodwell told City TV: "It's a little bit bittersweet. The result wasn't what we wanted, we wanted to finish the season on a high.

"On a personal note, it was good to get on the scoresheet. I've been unlucky in the last few games not to.

"Luckily they managed to go in and hopefully next season there'll be a few more.

"I've missed a lot of games this season. It's hard for me to come back and just feel 100%. I feel like I need games, back-to-back games. I'm sure that'll bring the best out of me."

think that puts all doubts over Benteke's quality to bed. Can he do it after receiving the ball to feet, in the box, totally unmarked, on a warm, sunny afternoon in Swindon? Oh yes he can! This year is definitely Liverpool's year. YNWA.

ll very well selling all midfield and strikers but unless we bring anyone in that is better than what we had then it will be a terrible transfer window in my view. Sorted out the defense but our midfield and striker options look very light.

ove it when Jose accuses others of being defensive, cynical and playing to win. If I was Wenger, I'd get that quote laminated and framed - surely the biggest compliment he's ever received from Mourinho. You've got him riled Arsene - you're relevant again!
