The Brazil full-back moved to the Etihad Stadium from Inter Milan last summer after making just 11 appearances under former City boss Roberto Mancini.

The 31-year-old was subsequently told by new manager Manuel Pellegrini he had no future at the club and he was left out of the club's pre-season tour to South Africa.

Maicon arrived in the Italian capital for a medical on Monday and has now completed the move back to Serie A after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.
