The two played together to good effect in last weekend's win over Liverpool, with Van Persie scoring and Welbeck producing a man-of-the-match performance.

With Wayne Rooney fit again following a knee injury, Welbeck may struggle to retain his place for Sunday's game at Tottenham but the 22-year-old is happy to learn from his more experienced colleague.

"Robin is a world-class striker and has definitely added something to our team," said Welbeck. "It is not just his goalscoring, it is his all-round play.

"He brings others into the game very well and holds the ball up as well. As you watch him more closely, you get to see how good he is. It is great to be playing in the same team as him and I do learn from him as well."

By the time United take to the field at White Hart Lane they will know the size of their lead over nearest rivals Manchester City, who face Fulham on Saturday, but Welbeck insists United are only focusing on their own results.

"We are not looking at anybody else," he added. "Every game now is important. The main thing is to get the three points no matter who is in the team.

"Once anyone gets their chance, they have to give 100%. We are together as a group. We are working for each other and looking out for each other."
