So who will replace David Moyes as manager of Everton after his appointment as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor at Manchester United? Wigan's Robert Martinez heads the betting. Check out the latest odds

After a brilliant start to his Old Trafford career, during which he even earned comparisons with the great Duncan Edwards, Jones' progress has stalled following a succession of troublesome injuries.

He was ruled out again for a short time over Christmas, eventually making his comeback in Wednesday's FA Cup replay triumph over West Ham at Old Trafford.

Now he is hoping for an injury-free run, and the chance to force his way back into manager Sir Alex Ferguson's plans on a regular basis.

"It has not been a great season for me," said Jones, who was speaking at a Q&A session at Old Trafford to promote United's new global partnership with Japanese paint manufacturer Kansai.

"I picked up a few injuries and had a few setbacks, so it's been really frustrating because I am a nightmare patient.

"But I feel fit and strong now, and hopefully I can get a good run in the side and finish the season off well."

Although he has missed so much football, Jones has plenty ahead of him given United's pursuit of honours on three fronts.

It is exactly why he left hometown club Blackburn at the start of last season, a move which, given Rovers' dramatic fall from grace, was pretty astute.

"It's great to come back into a team that's doing so well," he said.

"The reason you come to Manchester United is to play in big games every week.

"As well as league games and FA Cup matches, we've got two massive games coming up against Real Madrid.

"They are all matches that, if I'm involved, I will relish."
