Wayne Rooney: Reportedly wants out at Old Trafford

DAILY MIRROR

David Moyes will be named Manchester United manager after being handpicked by Sir Alex Ferguson himself. The Everton boss has been given a five-year contract to succeed Sir Alex and will include former United player Phil Neville on his staff.

Chelsea have gatecrashed Bayern Munich's attempts to sign Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney and are ready with a £30m bid.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are set to offer 34-year-old midfielder Frank Lampard a new one-year deal.

Paolo Di Canio says Sunderland turned down his resignation during the controversy over his political views.

Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner is set to fly into Birmingham next week and hand boss Paul Lambert a summer transfer kitty following the club's recent Premier League resurgence.

Southampton are set to make a bid for Malaga right-back Jesus Gamez, 28, who is rated at £5m by the Spanish club.

Brighton are targeting £3m-rated Birmingham defender Curtis Davies, 28, as a key summer signing if they go up to the Premier League.

THE SUN

Sir Alex Ferguson wants David Moyes to succeed him as manager of Manchester United.

Phil Neville will be in the frame to succeed Moyes at Everton - if he does not follow him to Old Trafford.

Andre Villas-Boas admits Tottenham's Champions League hopes are teetering on the brink after Wednesday night's 2-2 draw at Chelsea.

Arsenal are on the trail of £6m-rated Stuttgart keeper Sven Ulreich, 24, who is under contract until 2017.

Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio has been blocked in his attempts to bring back midfielder Ahmed Elmohamady from his loan spell at Hull City.

DAILY STAR

David Moyes is set to be confirmed as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor as Manchester United manager.

Gyfli Sigurdsson netted a late equaliser to keep Tottenham in the hunt for the Champions League - and make Chelsea sweat on their own top four hopes.

Arsenal, Tottenham, West Brom, Fulham, Aston Villa and Swansea are believed to be keeping an eye on the contract situation of Manchester City's 22-year-old midfielder Abdisalam Ibrahim.

DAILY MAIL

An astonishing day at Manchester United took an incredible twist on Wednesday night when it emerged Wayne Rooney has asked to leave Old Trafford at a time when the club are close to securing the return of Cristiano Ronaldo.

David Moyes is a huge favourite to be the new United boss, with Wigan's Roberto Martinez set to take over at Goodison Park.

DAILY EXPRESS

David Moyes will become Manchester United's new manager in the next 48 hours after Sir Alex Ferguson told the club he should be his successor.

Gylfi Sigurdsson controversially earned Andre Villas-Boas a face-saving draw on his return to Chelsea but that was not enough to keep Spurs' Champions League hopes in their own hands.

Keeper Costel Pantilimon believes Saturday's FA Cup final could be his last game for Manchester City.

DAILY TELEGRAPH

David Moyes will be confirmed as the next Manchester United manager but one of his first tasks will be to retain the services of Wayne Rooney.

Phil Neville has emerged as one of the leading candidates to succeed Moyes at Goodison Park, along with Roberto Martinez and Neil Lennon.

THE TIMES

David Gill insisted last night that succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson was "not an impossible job" as Manchester United prepare to announce the appointment of David Moyes as their new manager today.

Wayne Rooney has been told by Manchester United that he will not be sold this summer, although it remains to be seen whether David Moyes wants to keep the player with whom he had a difficult relationship at Everton.

THE GUARDIAN

David Moyes's first challenge on succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United manager will be to persuade Wayne Rooney to stay at the club after the striker asked to leave a fortnight ago.

Andre Villas-Boas urged Tottenham Hotspur's supporters to "keep the faith" after his team surrendered the initiative to Arsenal in the pursuit of Champions League qualification despite twice coming from behind to frustrate Chelsea.

THE INDEPENDENT

Manchester United's appointment of David Moyes as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor could be concluded as early as today, after weeks of work under a cloak of secrecy by the club to ensure a smooth transition at Old Trafford.

Football Association chairman David Bernstein has cast doubt on an immediate England return for John Terry, saying that he considered the former captain still to be in retirement.

I

think all those names linked to United exits make sense. Kagawa has never really looked like hitting the form he had at Dortmund and Fellaini is radioactive after last season (even though I think he's been unfairly singled out for criticism). Nani and Anderson have had more than their fair share of chances so they are done, and Hernandez deserves better than warming a bench.
