It was initially feared that the Frenchman was facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after he was stretchered off during the 2-1 defeat at Tottenham.

However, X-rays confirmed that he had not broken any bones and following further assessment from the Newcastle medical staff he has been cleared of any serious injury.

Pardew told the club's official website: "That's all good news, fortunately. We think he'll train on Monday."

The striker had previously played for Bordeaux in the Europa League meaning he would not have been available for either leg of the tie with Metalist Kharkiv on Thursday.

But the 26-year-old could now be available for United's next Premier League outing against Southampton at St James' Park on Saturday week.
