The 27-year-old has found his chances limited this year since being sent off in his only appearance of the season - the 4-0 Premier League opening-game loss at Manchester City.

Despite a lack of game-time, Taylor has been told by manager Alan Pardew that he will not be shipped out on loan, with the centre-half hoping to win back his place in the Magpies' starting XI.

"If I'm not going to get in the team, then obviously we will have to look at something else," he told The Sun.

"But for the moment in time, the manager has come out and said that and we will have to wait and see."

The form of Mike Williamson and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa have pushed Taylor down the pecking order, but the Greenwich-born defender insists he is fit enough to compete.

"The suspension was a bigger killer but for six, seven or eight weeks now, I've been ready and feeling good," he added.

"I am ready and fit for selection and so I just need to keep battling away."
