The Magpies are currently ninth in the Premier League standings, but have won just three of their last 11 outings in the top flight.

More concerning for manager Alan Pardew, Newcastle have leaked 23 goals in their last 10 matches, leading to suggestions the players are already winding down for a summer break.

However, Gosling refuted the claims and insists the quality of opposition in recent weeks - Everton, Southampton and Manchester United - must be taken into consideration when looking at the form book.

"The lads are not going out there thinking about our summer holidays - totally not," he said in The Sun.

"We are going out and trying to win games. We are not conceding goals on purpose.

"We have played three very good sides lately; they are all above us in the league and have bigger squads than we have as well."

Chasing

A 4-0 reverse at the hands of Southampton earlier in the month saw Newcastle slip below their mid-table rivals, but Gosling insists the Magpies are ready to take back eighth place.

"We are probably second in our mini-league - Southampton are above us by two points," he added.

"We are still chasing them down and if we finish eight it will be a great season."

While Newcastle eye Southampton in eighth, Stoke are just six points behind them in 10th and Gosling understands a trip to the Potteries will provide a stern test on Saturday.

"Stoke are chasing us down and the Britannia is a tough place to go," he admitted.

"They are very good at home. They've beaten some top teams there and are starting to play some good stuff as well.

"We know it's going to be a very hard task and we've got to be ready."

couple of wins and everything is OK! Sorry you still haven't got a striker who can consistently goals. Keep searching. I don't think Liverpool will make top four not even Europa League this time around.

f he can find the right player? Surely the manager of one of Europe's top clubs has a well-researched short-list and has a good idea of who he wants to bring on-board? If I can find the right player sounds like someone going out on Saturday night on the pull, and the nearer you get to midnight the lower your standards drop.
