Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes a £27m deal for Barcelona's Spain midfielder Cesc Fabregas, 27, is close to completion.

Arsenal are passing up their right of first refusal to buy Fabregas back, as they feel they have greater priorities elsewhere. They have reignited their interest in Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic and Arsene Wenger is also targeting a defensive midfielder, a right-back and a centre-back - with Cardiff's Steven Caulker an option for the latter spot.

Porto's defensive midfielder Fernando, 26, has cut short his holiday to seal a £16m move to Premier League champions Manchester City.

Manchester United transfer target Thomas Muller has signed a new contract at Bayern Munich - one that will keep the goalscoring midfielder at the German club until 2019.
