Clarke settles for a draw

Steve Clarke had to settle for a point on Saturday as his West Brom side drew 1-1 at home to Newcastle United in the Premier League.

It was the classic game of two halves and the home side were lucky to still be in with a shout after the break.

For Clarke, though, it was another game to chalk off in an impressive first season at the club.

He said: "Newcastle were better and sharper than us in the first half.

"They looked like a side who wanted to secure their place in the Premier League next season.

"All credit to them at the start of the game. They created a number of chances and we were very lucky to hang in there."

Clarke had defender Billy Jones to thank for rescuing his side a point. The result leaves West Brom in eighth place and five points behind Liverpool.
