The Baggies finished 8th last term, recording nine home victories - the highest in a single Premier League season.

And Brunt is confident Steve Clarke's men can build on their success, starting with the visit of Southampton on the opening day.

"Expectation levels rise every year," said the Northern Ireland international.

"Realistically we did as well as we were going to do last season.

"It's our job as players to try and kick-on and do a little bit better this season. We can build from there.

"The fans will expect it and when you start being a little bit more successful you have to deal with that and I think we've got a good group of players who are more than capable of dealing with that."

ove it when Jose accuses others of being defensive, cynical and playing to win. If I was Wenger, I'd get that quote laminated and framed - surely the biggest compliment he's ever received from Mourinho. You've got him riled Arsene - you're relevant again!

t's wrong to be making a joke out of Bender's name at the expense of gay people. It's the kind of childish, uncivilised thing that Football365 would deride and ridicule if it was another media outlet saying. Why is there a need for jokes like this? Does it make your writers feel like men? F365 might suggest that I 'lighten up', but it is genuinely traumatic for people who have been oppressed all their lives to be the butt of jokes, and to be told...

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.
