The striker was due to become a free agent this summer but has opted to extend his stay at the City Ground beyond the three years of his original deal signed in 2009.

Blackstock has become a huge fans favourite since joining Forest from Queens Park Rangers with 36 goals in 120 appearances, battling back from a serious knee injury that sidelined him for more than a year.

Chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi said: "It quickly became apparent to me just how important a player Dexter is to Nottingham Forest after my family completed our purchase of the Club last summer.

"I made it one of my top priorities to persuade him to sign a new extended contract and I'm delighted he has chosen to do so."
