The 19-year-old England Under-21 international will stay at Hillsborough until March 9.

Wickham, who cost the Black Cats £8.1million when he joined them from Ipswich during the summer of 2011, is yet to establish himself in the first team at the Stadium of Light, but has shown signs that he is getting to grips with the Premier League in recent months.

Manager Martin O'Neill, who completed a £5million swoop for Swansea's Danny Graham on transfer deadline day, has allowed him to go out on loan because the club has only three games between now and his scheduled return date.

He said: "Now that he has good confidence, maybe getting four or five matches in that month-period in the Championship would be good news all round if he stayed clear of injury.

"My slight concern is that something happens to us - but it is three games as opposed to a host of matches in the 28-day period."

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.

afa has to be favourite for the Everton job now, surely :) He'll realise his ambition to live and work on Merseyside again, get the best out of whoever plays for them, maybe win some cups and be thoroughly loathed by the toffee fans. What's not to like? Go ead, Ken, gimajob!

hat is arguably the least inspiring England I have ever seen. There is not a single name in that list that makes me think I might actually want to watch this team. Not a one.
