Brian McDermott: Prepared to be honest with the board

McDermott, installed as Leeds' fifth permanent manager in just over five years following Neil Warnock's departure earlier this month, is expecting candid talks with the club's board in preparation for an assault on the Premier League next season.

Leeds guaranteed Championship safety at the weekend and McDermott is keen to install a general policy of honesty throughout Elland Road.

"This club has spent 10 years trying to get into the next league," McDermott told the club's official website. "We have to be open, we have to be honest and we have to be open with the fans. We have to be open with ourselves.

"I'll be open with the board, the chief executive and I will say exactly what I feel needs to be done and that's why they have brought me here.

"There are a number of issues that I have seen, nothing major, but there are things here that I would regard as an irritant more than anything else.

"We can take care of these as a group, the club as a whole and that would take away any little issues that players and staff could have and we need to make sure we all go in the same direction."
