Remembering 'that' childhood goal

TEAMtalk's Tom McDermott picks out a stunning volley from a Dutch striker as the stand-out goal from his childhood - but what's yours?

Marco van Basten: Celebrating after scoring 'that' goal

FanZoner Harry Moylan wrote a blog on Saturday, explaining the path he took to becoming an Arsenal fan. It's quite a story given that he was a young Manchester United supporter at the time.

But, along came Dennis Bergkamp and after a moment of brilliance from the Dutchman, Harry swapped the red of the North West for the red of North London.

It's amazing the impact a goal can have on you as a child. It can remind you of previous great sides, moments away from the field or like Harry, it can shape your footballing future.

It left me for a moment to consider what goal really stood out for me during my younger days.

And in the end, there was always only going to be one, from another Dutchman - Marco van Basten.

You know which one I'm on about already don't you? Yes that's right, Euro '88 v USSR and 'that' volley.

The beauty of choosing a goal from your younger years is that it doesn't have to come from 'your' team.

And I just wonder how many of today's school children will pick out Neymar's volley against Mexico at the Confederations Cup last week in 10 years' time as the goal that made them fall in love with the beautiful game.

Having asked everyone here at TEAMtalk Towers, we want to know which one stands out for you? Have a think and post your comments below. You might just surprise yourselves.

Barcelona transfer ban upheld

h Daniel. I could spend hours on this subject putting the world to rights. You can even take a step back and ask why football fans (and society in general) have this need to know that something will happen before it actually does. There are times this important, when it comes to things like war, food production and natural disasters. A man you've never met changing his job? Not so much.

reat article. Hits the nail on the head. Encapsulates why I don't read tabloid newspapers anymore. The only thing worse is the 'told you so first' headline when they get lucky.
