Stoke have so far added only defensive duo Erik Pieters and Marc Muniesa to their squad, with USA forward Juan Agudelo signing a pre-contract agreement to move to the Premier League in January.

City have also been in negotiations with Hannover over former Manchester United striker Mame Biram Diouf, and Bowen has confirmed the club are looking to strengthen their attacking options.

"If we can bring one or two new faces in, maybe in forward areas, it pushes the ones who are here already to raise their game and also gets supporters excited," he told Sky Sports News Radio.

"We'll keep looking before the transfer window closes and hopefully we can add to the squad.

"Mark Cartwright, our technical director, is on board as well. It's a case of all of us scouring Europe and the home countries as well to address the parts of the squad that we feel needs strengthening."

Bowen was confirmed as Mark Hughes' assistant at the Britannia Stadium in June, and the Welshman has been delighted with the attitude of the club's players as they adapt to a new style of play.

He said: "It's been a hectic time for us all coming into the club, getting to know the players, but we've been absolutely delighted with the application of the squad.

"It's been well documented we're trying to tweak the style of play to be a more expansive team, and everything we've put to the players they've embraced so we're looking forward to the first game.

"The supporters have been very good. We had our first home game against Genoa last Saturday and I think it was a different style of play they were looking at, but the first impressions are that the supporters are on board and behind it."

You can hear Bowen's full interview, in which he also discusses Hughes' determination to prove wrong his critics as well as Stoke's opening-day trip to Liverpool in an extended interview with Sky Sports News Radio.

S

till reckon Chelsea will go for Khedira as back up for Matic. I think it will turn out to be quite a Mourihno-y window: We'll see the squad players and youth in action pre-season, say things like well, we need not buy anybody and then the club will bid £60m for Pogba and send everybody on loan.

I

would love to be a fly on the wall at the meeting between Milner and Rodgers. I don't know if flies can count, but if they can then I would be counting the number of times Rodgers used the word outstanding in his attempts to get Milner to sign.

Reds and Arsenal chase Milner

W

ell, it wouldn't be a summer without Arsenal fans fretting over losing a key player, and United throwing their weight around and muscling in on transfer deals which are (apparently) near to completion. If we can't be entertained by the football on the pitch, let's enjoy the silly off-pitch soap opera of the transfer season. Hurrah!
