Charlie Adam: Stoke's driving force against Manchester City

Adam produced a man-of-the-match performance in the goalless draw with Manchester City on Saturday, a result that extended Stoke's unbeaten league run to three games.

Hughes is keen to steer Stoke away from the physical, direct approach they became renowned for under Tony Pulis, and Adam believes their enjoyment of their football has been vital to their positive start to the season.

Adam said: "When you are playing it is different. It is easier when you are enjoying it and the team is playing well.

"That is the important thing. Hopefully we can continue that and finish as high as we can, do ourselves proud and better what we did last year.

"We are playing well, we are enjoying it. We are trying to play as well as we can and get results and we are doing that so far this year.

"It has been a tough start but we have got points on the board and we are happy."

Stoke rebounded from their opening-day defeat at Liverpool with wins over Crystal Palace and West Ham before getting the better of the goalless draw with big-spending City.

"This is another step in the right direction after two good wins before the international break," Adam added.

"It is a good way to come back, to get a good point against a very good side. Now we go again, to Arsenal next week. Hopefully we can improve again."
