Danny Higginbotham: Set for international career

The 34-year-old former Manchester United, Sunderland and Stoke defender has confirmed that he has agreed to play in 'principle' for Uefa's newest footballing nation.

Higginbotham is the nephew of Gibraltar coach Allen Bulla, who has made the approach to bolster his country's ranks.

Higginbotham, who is now playing for Conference side Chester, has agreed to the idea of playing for Gibraltar - who will take part in Euro 2016 qualifying starting next year.

He said on his Twitter account: "I can confirm in principle that I have agreed to represent Gibraltar and am looking forward to the adventure."

Meanwhile, reports in Portugal claim Gibraltar are set to start their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign playing at the Estadio do Algarve - whilst their own purpose built stadium is completed.
