Stoke ready to trim squad

Stoke City chief executive Tony Scholes has admitted that a number of players will have to move on to balance the squad following some arrivals during the early part of the summer.

Mark Hughes: Stoke City manager has already made four signings

Mark Hughes has already bolstered his ranks with the signings of Phil Bardsley, Steve Sidwell, Mame Biram Diouf and Slovakian youngster Dionatan Teixeira.

The search for new players is not over but the club’s focus at the moment is on selling a couple of the fringe players.

“We will see (if we bring in any new players), it's about if the opportunities present themselves, but we also have to be mindful that we have to keep things balanced up,” Scholes told The Sentinel.

"Inevitably, after bringing a handful of new players in already there are one, two or three on the fringes who will probably be moving out.

"You've got to be mindful of the financial and also squad management reasons. You don't want too large a squad.

"We haven't decided to take the rest of the summer off. There is still work being done and a lot of players being tracked."

Michael Kightly, Cameron Jerome, Wilson Palacios and Ryan Shotton are among the fringe players to have been linked with a switch elsewhere, along with first-team stars Charlie Adam, Jon Walters and Steven Nzonzi.

Scholes accepts that Stoke may have to wait to get some of their business done, adding: "If you can get the right deal and the right player it's clearly better to get it sorted as early as you can.

"Moving players out is not just in our hands. It depends on the player and it depends on the club taking them."

Interesting to see what take the 'secret footballer' will have on those signings.

All Platini is doing is making billionaries pay measly fines, so he and his cronies can get rich. If a fool can pay 50 mil for David Luiz, he will happily pay some fine to UEFA. FFP has failed as for it to succeed UEFA had to take it...
