Luciano Slagveer scored the opener after 20 minutes and Twente's task became that much harder shortly after when Roberto Rosales was sent off after receiving his second yellow card.

Heerenveen took full advantage in the second half when Alfred Finnbogason scored after 50 and 64 minutes to guide Marco van Basten's side through.
