Aspas has netted six times so far this season and is reported to have also caught the eye of Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone.

However, agent Felix Gende said earlier this week that the 25-year-old would not be moving during the January transfer window - and Laudrup has now also played down talk of signing the Spaniard any time soon.

"He [Aspas] is a very good player," he said. "I know him, but to say he is coming here is a big step.

"When I look at players, I look first for quality. Second, do they fit into this environment, this squad and this city? Then there is the salary and the fee."

Laudrup has enjoyed a strong start to his first season of management in the Premier League, guiding Swansea to ninth in the table.

But he is keen to improve his squad and revealed that work has been going on behind the scenes to draw up a list targets for the January window.

"We are always looking for players and if you want to do your job well, you always have to be prepared for everything in advance," he said.

"You cannot start when the shop opens. That's why you have to always see the players who you could bring in if it's necessary.

"We have a list of players for every position that we have drawn up in the last three or four months. There are a lot of things going on."
