The Ibrox outfit found themselves starting from scratch in the Scottish Third Division after coming close to going out of business.

They are still working under a transfer embargo on the back of a much-publicised fall from grace, with McCoist's hands having been tied until September.

He has been looking to get possible additions lined up, as Rangers look to make their way back to the top, but concedes that the club are not the attractive proposition they once were.

McCoist said in the Sunday Mail: "It's a struggle - that's why we have to take it a season at a time as we try to get back to the SPL.

"The reason we lost 30 players in the summer was because they didn't want to play in SFL3. It's not suddenly become attractive to players of that ability.

"Some just aren't interested at all and the only reason they're looking is because of our name.

"It would be nice to get in some players who would improve our team and help us get back up."

Boost

On his efforts to get fresh faces on board, McCoist added: "We are close with a couple but I'm scared of that door getting slammed again.

"We can't register anyone until September but I want the deals done tomorrow - yesterday even.

"It would give everyone a boost to know we have two or three fresh faces coming in.

"We need guys who will strengthen the squad as we are really bare."
