McFadden will start on the bench after McNamara's former Scotland colleague re-signed for the Lanarkshire club last night in a bid to rejuvenate his career.

While the Fir Park faithful will be desperate to see McFadden make his comeback later in the game, McNamara is wary of the more immediate threat of another former team-mate in Higdon.

The Englishman took his tally for the season to 18 goals on Saturday with a double in Motherwell's 3-0 win over Inverness - the second a powerful first-time volley with his left foot from 18 yards.

McNamara said: "Michael's a player I know well and played alongside him at Falkirk.

"He's a good player. He's got good ability and he's strong.

"He's scored some good goals for them so we know he's going to be a handful."

McNamara knows his side will have to be prepared for a lightning start from a Motherwell side who have scored 15 goals in their last five Clydesdale Bank Premier League games at Fir Park.

The boost from McFadden's return comes days after they moved second in the SPL.

McNamara said: "Motherwell are going well and Stuart McCall is doing a fantastic job there. All credit to them for that.

"They had a great result at the weekend beating Inverness 3-0 so they'll be confident.

"We need to go there and make sure we stand up and be counted from the very start."
