Motherwell ended the term behind champions Celtic, and McCall paid tribute to his "outstanding" players.

"It was documented at the beginning of the season that we had lost three or four players and Aberdeen, Hearts and Dundee United and other sides were tipped for second spot," he said.

"We weren't mentioned and rightly so. Top six was our aim and to finish second with a game to go and beating last season's points tally, is a tribute to the players.

"So the award is a great honour for the club.

"It is down to the players and the staff. I have been very fortunate and they have made my life easier. But the players have been outstanding."

McCall replaced Craig Brown at Fir Park in December 2010, with his side finishing sixth in the table.

And in his first full season they finished third behind Celtic and Rangers, and with Ally McCoist's side absent this term, Well have emerged as the best of the rest.

Hibernian striker Leigh Griffiths collected his third award of the season after being named SPL Player of the Year.

On-loan from Wolves, Griffiths scored his 28th goal of the season in fine style during Saturday's Edinburgh derby win over Hearts.

And Victor Wanyama collected the Young Player of the Year award following his key role in the Hoops' second consecutive title win.
